Will you be my valentine? And you, and you, and you, and you?

A few years ago I realized Valentine's day is for kids. They get into it so much more than I do, so why not give in and make it totally about them? So we have a tradition of making a fancy, romantic dinner all afternoon, getting dressed up and "surprising" dad when he gets home from work. And after that, chocolate fondue is pretty much required, with donuts, strawberries, bananas, mandarin oranges, pineapple, and marshmallows. And we all get a little "sauced," and end up laughing our heads off. Then Mike helps clean up and goes off to his meetings. Very romantic. I put the kids down and watch TV, then read a book, then doze off. Everybody is happy.

So how did you celebrate Valentine's day? And I won't even be sad or jealous if you did some magical couple thing with your Valentine. (Just don't give too many details.) I'm so at peace with having 5 Valentines.

Or maybe fondue for Presidents Day. What do ya think?

That's really a great idea...we really didn't celebrate...I was sick all day and then had to teach piano that night. We did some fun pre-Valentines activities though. I like your idea though...to make it special for the kids!

I totally agree that it's a kids holiday. What a fun tradition you have. I will try to remember that one for next year. Anything that involves fondue must be good.

Hey, we did fondue too! But you had a lot more things to dip than we did. I've got to remember doughnuts next time. Yum.

How about fondue for Sunday dessert?

Oh, that's so sweet! I love the fondue idea. We made a red velvet cake that turned teal. Read my blog for details.

I love that we are both leaving comments on each others blogs at 11:30 at night. Why aren't we asleep? Must have been all that sugar in the dessert plus the few chocolates later on. Enough!

What a fun tradition. I agree that it should be day of love for all! Tim gives all the girls flowers. I gave Oliver some choc. covered fortune cookies this year. Tim and I got out for dinner and we ended up being on the local evening news. Fun times!

What a great tradition. We have a valentines box that we put valentines in for everyone. I always give the kids a cheap small box of chocolates and Jeff one with Lindor balls. I thought Jeff and I aggreed on doing a non money present for each other. I ended up with and ipod, and he got a clean garage to park a jeep in. Jeff and I didn't see each other until late, but the kids and I finally had time to shop for clothes. It was a fun evening. I love your fondue idea.

I have to agree. I have decided to make it a family evening with a fun dinner and decorating desserts together afterwords. Now if I can get Zach to stop cutting out the very center of the cookie dough first.
