But if I had blogged, I would have told you all about my feelings on the stupidity of the celebration of GREEN, in other words, St. Patrick's Day. Can I get a shout out from anyone who is annoyed by the superfluity and frivolity, and who is offended by the very existence of products related to St. Patrick's Day? Let's hear it. And how amusing that it should fall so close to Easter, so that there is a veritable collision between the shamrocks and the bunnies in all the seasonal aisles of stores. (See, aren't you glad I didn't blog about it? I'm March 17th's answer to the Grinch.) Then I would have gone on Charlie Brown style, a mere 6 days later to blog about my grief over the commercialization of Easter, and then my grief over my OWN spiral to hell in a pastel colored handbasket. Because at the end of the day, who can resist the fluffy bunny ears? Not me. I'm such a hypocrite.
But a few notable things have happened, that got me back on the bloggin' train. The peeps torture was a highlight of the Easter aftermath. Thanks, Bridget. I feel now that Sam's airsoft gun has fulfilled the measure of it's creation. (Hmm, still don't know how to add a link. Somebody come show m
e.) Bridget has pictures.
Sam broke his thumb on this cursed rip-stick, then jumped back on it the next day to try some "sweet new tricks."
Sydney graduated to Sam's bike and Maia almost learned to ride Syd's bike. Can y
ou hear the chanting? "go Maia, go Maia, go Maia." I love the team effort.I've been forgetting my camera everywhere we go. Silver Creek Falls (with my sib's Sheryl's and Neil's family, and of course mom and dad in their RV) was beautiful--amazingly rain-free. But cold. Then a night in Corvallis with the folks. Got to see my other brother Ken, who is thankfully recovering from a crazy-long bout of vertigo. Also got to see a highschool BFF I haven't seen in 15ish years. (Thanks for not lurking, Dale, despite your disdain for blogs.) Then on to Lincoln City where we experienced all manner of weather: hail, rain, hail, incandescent sunshine, hail, WIND, hail. Did I mention hail? Sam stood outside the window pretending to be a newscaster who gets swept away during the newscast. That got so many laughs that he did it about 87 more times.
And we're home, doing laundry and repacking, so we can get up early and brave the snowstorms between here and Bend. Hmmm..."winter snow watch." Maybe we'll stay home.

awww, i would have loved to see sam pretending to be a newscaster getting swept away in the weather! that is hilarious!
the whole easter/st. patrick's day thing wouldn't have been such a big deal if easter had been in april like it always should be! what's up with easter, not to mention sprink break, being in march! way too early, if you ask me!
you have been missed! it happens to the best of us, losing the bloggin' feeling, that is. isn't it funny how we feel like we must apologize for having a dry spell! why?
I would have loved to see Sam doing that too. He's a crackup, he is. I feel the same way about St. Patrick's Day. It is a lame faux holiday.
Just so you know, I have missed you quite a bit. It's good to know you haven't abandoned the blog all together! And, I really like St. Patricks Day, thank you very much! : )
Are you kidding? I love St. Patrick's Day. Not as much as Easter but I do still love it. Who doesn't want the opportunity to use your best (or worst) Irish accent and greet everyone you meet with "Top of the mornin' to ya"? I tried that this year and cracked myself up all day long. I don't know exactly WHY we celebrate this. But who cares? It gives the kids something different at school that day even if it's the topic of "Where is your green at?" It's not much but it's something.
It does make me uncomfortable to lie to my kids about another gift giving mythical creature.
It sounds like it descends from pagan fertility rites tied to the vernal equinox:
Easter Bunny
But I do like the cadbury cream eggs.

I love the controversy over St. Patrick's Day--I actually love the silliness of wearing green and putting food coloring in the scrambled eggs. I'm just trying to take a good hard look at the extra money spent on themed greeting cards, decorations, t-shirts, etc. This type of wanton consumerism is part of the decline of our culture. (If you believe Thorstein Veblen's ideas about conspicuous consumption in THEORY OF THE LEISURE CLASS.) It's just plain wasteful, and mirrors the emptiness of our souls.
Am I going too far? Well it's my blog, I can rant if I want to. Rant if I want to. Rant if I want to.
Brenda, you are a well-read, very literate soul. I love how you write. Whether you are ranting or raving about St. Patrick's Day, reading your blog is a plesure. So, welcome back!
See me waving? I'm leaving a comment, so you will know that I stopped by. ;)
One of the other wards invited our ward to an egg hunt on the day that our young women were going join us after a snow camp-out for a joint activity sledding. The YW leaders felt it important to spend the morning there with their kids, so in ward council they asked whether we were going to cancel the campout too. I said "campout vs pagan ritual... we'll stick with the campout"
I love seeing what you have been up to! Sounds like you kept busy. Hopefully I'll get more details soon-in person. I'm excited to be home-see you soon.
I check your blog often so I'm glad to see you're coming back. I never knew that anyone had such a disdain for St. Patricks Day most of the time I don't even know it exists but I'm sure I will think of it next year after reading this. I do give in to the lovely Easter fanfare. Who can resist.
Breezy
I feel that I dont comment enough on your blog but I do check it often. Although I'm not ranting what is it with st p day anyways? wearing green getting pinched? I just dont get it! But I LOVE Easter cant knock the cute easter bunny who bring such joy...almost like Santa. Where does it stop?
Glad your back bloggin too! ;)
Sam is so cute! He saw me at the school yesterday and shouted his "Hi Tonya!" down the hallway. I kind of ignored St. Paddy's day this year. Maybe because Errol Hassell said no pinching at all, so the fun was gone! I could take or leave it. Easter bunnies and peanut butter chocolate eggs however are musts, though I don't get why they are part of Easter.
